Manual Clutch Troubleshooting & Service

The manual clutch assembly functions under very difficult conditions in the automotive power train. Heat and friction are properly used, the clutch assembly may function properly for thousands of kilometres. If the clutch is misused or used in hilly areas or with heavy loads, its service life is shorted

Preventive Maintenance

• Lubricate clutch linkage.
• Adjust clutch pedal free play.

Troubleshooting     

• Clutch slips while engaged
• Clutch chatters and/ or grabs when engaging
• Clutch spins or drags when engaging.
• Clutch pedal pulsates.
• Clutch will not release properly.
• Clutch is noisy when pedal is depressed- engine running.
• Clutch is noisy when pedal is depressed- engine not running.
• Clutch is noisy when pedal is fully released- engine running.
• Excessive pedal pressure.
• Rapid clutch disc wear

Service

• Remove a clutch from a vehicle
• Clean and inspect clutch components.
• Check clutch housing for misalignment.
• replace a clutch release bearing
• Install a new pilot bearing
• Install the clutch
• Service the clutch and slave cylinders
• Bleed the hydraulic clutch system.
